Never Lose Hope In Dealing With Your Fears And Depression
By Stan Popovich

When your fears and depression have the best of you, it is easy
to feel that things will not get any better. This is not true.
There is much help available in today’s society and the best
way to deal with your fears is to find effective ways to
overcome them. As a result, here are some techniques a person
can use to help manage their fears and anxieties.

You never know when the answers your looking for will come to
your doorstep. Even if the thing that you feared does happen,
there are circumstances and factors that you can’t predict
which can be used to your advantage. These factors can change
everything. Remember: we may be ninety-nine percent correct in
predicting the future, but all it takes is for that one percent
to make a world of difference.

Challenge your negative thinking with positive statements and
realistic thinking. When encountering thoughts that make your
fearful or depressed, challenge those thoughts by asking
yourself questions that will maintain objectivity and common
sense. For example, your afraid that if you do not get that job
promotion then you will be stuck at your job forever. This
depresses you, however your thinking in this situation is
unrealistic. The fact of the matter is that there all are kinds
of jobs available and just because you don’t get this job
promotion doesn’t mean that you will never get one. In
addition, people change jobs all the time, and you always have
that option of going elsewhere if you are unhappy at your
present location.

Some people get depressed and have a difficult time getting out
of bed in the mornings. When this happens, a person should take
a deep breath and try to find something to do to get their mind
off of the problem. A person could take a walk, listen to some
music, read the newspaper or do an activity that will give them
a fresh perspective on things. Doing something will get your
mind off of the problem and give you confidence to do other
things.

Seek help from God. You might of heard this before, however
have you tried asking God for help? Praying and talking to God
about your problem can be effective. Although the answers might
not come to you right away, you can’t go wrong on relying on
God. You never know how God will work in ones life. All you can
do is to do your best each day, hope for the best, and take it
in stride by using the help of God. God will help us through
our problems if we ask him.

As a Layman and author of an anxiety book, I have done many
interviews with various counselors in how to manage fear,
anxiety and depression. The techniques that I have just covered
are some basic ways to manage your depression, however your best
bet is to get some help from a professional and not to lose
hope. Eventually, you will find the answers you are looking
for.

About the Author: Stan Popovich is the author of “A Layman’s
Guide to Managing Fear” an easy to read book that presents a
overview of techniques that are effective in managing
persistent fears and anxieties. For additional information go
Easy Self Discipline Tricks
By Steven Gillman

What is self discipline? It is the ability to control your behavior,
to motivate yourself to do the things you should be doing and not do
things you shouldn’t be doing. Willpower may be considered an element
of it, but sometimes trying to “force” yourself to do something just
makes things worse. Learn to associate negative feelings with an
activity, and it just gets more difficult to do, and less likely that
you will do it.

Is there an easier route to self discipline? Actually, there are
many. Here are some of the most effective self discipline tricks and
techniques. Why not try them today?

1. Start the process. Suppose you are procrastinating about doing
your taxes. You feel stressed when you think about doing your tax
return. Then don’t think about it! Once sufficient thought has been
given to any project, more thought just creates more stress. The
negative feelings that develop make it harder and harder to force
yourself to do what needs to be done. You feel like you have no self
discipline.

Action is the cure for this. In the case of the tax return, just lay
out the forms where you can work on them later. Later, just gather
all the materials and put them with the forms. The next day, do just
one form, and then another. Whatever the task is, you can find enough
motivation for some small step. Training your mind to take that first
step as soon as you think of it. The next steps, and so the whole
project become easier once you start.

2. Enjoy what you are doing. If you have ever stayed up all night
talking about something interesting, you know what power the mind has
over the body. How easily we put off sleep when we are motivated by a
passionate discussion. It doesn’t take much willpower to keep doing
something when you are enjoying it, and that gives us another key to
self discipline.
When you enjoy what you are doing you are energized. Willpower goes
up and down with energy levels, so play energetic music, move around,
laugh, and look for ways to enjoy whatever project you are working
on. The more you associate good feelings with a task, the easier it
is to discipline yourself to do it.

3. Reward yourself. Break a task into s few steps, and give yourself
a reward when you complete each step. This could be a bowl of ice
cream, watching your favorite movie, or just relaxing for a few
minutes. Reward yourself with a pat on the back too. When you
recognize your successes, large and small, the possibilities become
more real to you, and more likely to be repeated.

4. Become more aware of how you work. Suppose that piece of cake
calls to you, or that television takes your attention away from your
more important work. It can be hard to resist temptation, right?
Stronger willpower is a nice theory, but here is a simpler solution:
stop standing in front of the cake! Turn off that television!

This is an easy lesson to understand, but try to train yourself to
apply it habitually. You shouldn’t keep beer in the house if you
don’t want to drink it. You shouldn’t go alone to the single’s bars
if you want to maintain a faithful marriage. You should just stay
away from people that lead you to trouble.

Self discipline doesn’t mean being immune to temptation. Develop the
willpower to say no, if you wish. While you are doing that, though,
why not also have the wisdom to avoid temptation? Learn where your
resistance is low, and don’t put yourself in those situations.
Doesn’t this make more sense than fighting useless battles with
yourself?

Fighting with yourself is no way to develop self discipline. It’s
better to learn about yourself. How are you energized? What motivates
you? What are your strengths and weaknesses? Why not learn about
yourself, and start using what you learn to make the behaviors you
want easier. That’s smarter self discipline.

The 17 Success Principles: Self-Discipline
By Momodou Sabally

Self-discipline is the fifth of the 17 Success Principles, as
outlined by Dr. Napoleon Hill. It is a wider concept in the
philosophy of success than we would normally assume it to mean in
daily discourse.

Napoleon Hill defines this principle to mean the control of your
thoughts such that you focus only on the things you want and ignore
the things you do not want. The wisdom in the foregoing statement
lies in the universal truth that “you become what you think”. Best
selling author and philosopher Dr. Wayne Dyer says that perhaps the
greatest seven words ever strung together is the proverbs saying “as
you think so shall you be”.

Be careful about what you focus your mind on for you are likely to
become what you think. Sow a thought and you reap a habit, sow a
habit and you reap a character, sow a character and you reap a
destiny, goes the adage.

The sad fact of the foregoing statement is that most people focus on
negative thoughts and all the things that they cannot do rather than
thinking about the things they can. No wonder the majority of people
are failures. Yes failures no matter what your definition of failure
or success is; you will realize through any survey that most adults
are disillusioned and unhappy because their dreams have eluded them
and they helplessly go around with the same routine day in day out
with some hope of a `lucky break’. Focus on the things you want and
ignore the things you do not want.

Strive to maintain a positive mental attitude A positive mental
attitude is rooted in the universal truth that God is always a good
God.

The key to self-discipline is to set clearly stated goals backed
with deadlines, and to focus on those goals. And work consistently
towards the achievement of those goals be they of material nature or
the higher spiritual values of life.

Self discipline also calls for the control of one’s emotions with a
view to develop the habit of using the positive emotions like love,
hope, faith, and enthusiasm. The negative emotions, which hinder our
progress in terms of the achievement of material and spirituals goals
include, anger, revenge, fear, and superstition.

Strive to cancel your negative emotions by using faith and love and
move on with your positive emotion for a better life.

self-control is strength; right thought is mastery; calmness is
power; say unto your heart, Peace be still!

5 Energy Boosting Tips for Busy Women
by Diane Randall

Have you lost the energy that you once had in your life? Are you
feeling drained at the end of the work day? I know firsthand that
women need to increase their energy levels in order to get more of
what they want out of their lives. Lack of energy is the number one
complaint I hear from every woman that I speak to.

Years ago I taught a software training class for five consecutive
days; at the beginning of the week I had high energy levels. However,
by day 5, my energy was depleted-mentally, physically and
emotionally. It took me two weeks to replenish my energy. Today, I
use energy boosters interspersed throughout my day to help me reclaim
the energy expended so that I feel revitalized throughout the entire
day. According to authors, Jim Loehr, Ed.D and Tony Schwartz who
wrote the book entitled The Power of Full Engagement “managing
energy, not time, is the key to enduring high performance as well as
to health, happiness, and life balance…We must learn to live our
lives as a series of sprints – fully engaged for periods of time -
and then fully disengaged and seeking renewal”. In other words, if
you identify and reduce stress triggers, learn to pace yourself, take
excellent care of your body, set boundaries around your life and
create a support system– your energy levels will increase and remain
high daily.

Identify and reduce stress triggers. Stress is an unavoidable part
of life. Identify the cause or circumstances of stress – where you
were or your physical and emotional state. Life events such as
traffic, work and family increase stress. Find healthy ways to cope
with stress. Recognize that stress depletes energy but your reaction
to it helps you minimize the impact.

Learn to pace yourself. Determine what makes you happy and give
yourself what you need. Pay attention to the parts of your life that
are most important. Create daily practices that nurture your ability
to build energy levels—take breaks, eat healthy snacks, listen to
music, focus on the present and what’s within your ability to
control.

Take care of your body. Make yourself number one as a priority;
spend your energy maximizing your health and wellness. Try mind-body
exercises, such as breathing, meditation and yoga. Be physically
active everyday and get plenty of rest. Take time to nourish your
body with a massage, which releases tension, revitalizes energy, and
helps you increase vitality.

Set boundaries around your life. Say “no” to things that don’t
support your overall priorities. Only accept requests that support
you at home and in the workplace. Learn your limits–pay attention to
what you can and cannot do to reduce the stress of excessive demands
on your life. Make the choice not to overload your schedule.

Create A Support System. Partner with a wellness coach who can
create a structure of accountability and support as you find ways to
boost your energy everyday. Remember, life can drain your energy, it
can steal it and suck it away-or, you can take steps to boost your
energy. It’s kind of like putting up shields for the Starship
Enterprise. When the shields are up and the armor plating is on, your
energy levels are stored-and you’re fueling yourself.

Take three actions this week to boost your energy. Email me at
Diane@LifeAccelerated.com to share with me personally what has worked
for you. I’d love to hear about your energy boosting success!

Avoid Stress By Being Yourself
by: Janet Male

Ask a hundred different people how to deal with stress and you’ll
probably get the same amount of different answers….

Which could result in more stress….

And therein lies the key.

Stress is often caused by too much information coming from too many
places.

There is more information in one daily newspaper than a person would
have received in their whole lifetime a few centuries ago. And that’s
without even taking the internet into consideration.

No wonder we sometimes get stressed!

Naturally, other people’s opinions can be interesting. But you don’t
have to take them all on board. Trying to will just drive you crazy!

It’s so important to take some quiet time each day to be on your
own. The answers that are right for you are found inside of you, you
just have to tune in. Something that is ‘right’ just seems to ‘bubble
up’ from within. So if something is bothering you by all means chat
it through with friends if it makes you feel better. Just don’t think
you have to take every opinion on board.

Never feel guilty if your opinion is different from anothers. The
biggest misery in life can be trying to’ fit in’ with another’s
dharma. Dharma is just another name for life path. A good example of
this is the storyline often seen in movies:

Child is miserable because mother/father wants him/her to follow in
his/her footsteps. Never under-estimate how traumatic this can be. If
something is not right for you and you’re trying to make it fit then
much pain can result…

Just think of the ‘ugly sisters’ trying to fit into Cindarella’s
slipper!

So, if you’re experiencing stress ask yourself:

“Am I being myself or am I trying to be what another would like me
to be?”

The path to happiness is to be your true self. This in turn will
make those around you happier because you will be also giving them
‘permission’ to be themselves.

So spread happiness by being true to yourself.

Enjoy!

Ten Keys to Inspiration
By Rochman Reese

Have you ever asked yourself what is inspiration?

When the word inspiration is broken down into it’s
component parts, it simply means “in – spirit”.

When you are living “in – spirit” you feel excited about
yourself and your life. You have a special conection with
all parts of your mind and body.

The question is how can we connect to our spirit at all
times to take actions that make all things possible?

Below are ten keys to opening doors to your inspiration:

1. The first key to inspiration is enjoyment. It would take
a spiritual master to get inspired about doing the dishes.
So find something that really excites you. It can be anything
that you really enjoy.

2. The second key is love. When you are actively pouring love
into what you are doing, this will guarantee that you are
opening yourself to experiencing more inspiration.

3. The third key is to trust yourself. Listen to that little
voice inside yourself and know that this comes from heart.
This is called intuition.

4. The fourth key is to follow what your intuition tells you.
The more you listen to it, the stronger your intuition will become.
If you don’t pay attention, that little voice gets fainter and
fainter until you can no longer hear it.

5. The fifth key is to keep telling yourself “I can”. These are
some of the most powerful words that you can ever use. When you
say this to yourself often enough, you build a bridge between
yourself and your inspiration.

6. The sixth key is not to listen to anyone that says “no you can’t”.
They might think that they may not be able to, and try to project
this negative belief onto you, but remember to keep telling yourself
that, “I can!”

7. The seventh key is to believe in yourself. When you are backed by
a strong belief in yourself and your dreams, nothing is impossible.

8. The eighth key is to avoid negativity. Ask yourself, do you really
need to read the newspaper or watch the news on TV everyday ? Nothing
kills inspiration quicker than being surrounded by bad news.

9. The ninth key is acceptance. Accept that on some days you feel much
more inspired than on others. This is normal, nobody can be completely
inspired every minute of the day.

10. The tenth key is possibly the most important of all. Take action
every day, no matter how small a step it seems. Action is the fuel to
the fires of inspiration. Make it a daily practise to keep your fire
burning. The taking of action, no matter how small, will fill you
with inspiration for taking the next step.

May your life be filled with many blessings.

QUOTABLE QUIPS

every problem, expect abundance on every level, expect
to grow spiritually.” – Eileen Caddy

toward it, for that determines our success or failure.”
“Encouraging You While I Encourage Me”
October 14, 2005

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
IN THIS ISSUE:
=> Living Abundantly
=> Quotable Quips
=> Biblical Bites for The Soul
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Many of us are bowed down by life – stressed, short of time,
tired, on a treadmill, knowing that this isn’t the way to live,
but not knowing how to free ourselves up to live more fully,
more abundantly. There are simple things we can do – they don’t
take time or money – they take a change of attitude. Here are 9
of them:

1. Being totally financially honest – if you are not, this
implies that there is not enough for you to have everything you
need without dishonesty.

2. Creating a vacuum so that more good things can flow into it
– don’t fill your life up with things you don’t really want.
Ask yourself if you want each thing before you buy it. Don’t
have abundant rubbish, live abundantly by seeking out the
things and experiences that work for you in your core being.

3. Tithing is often associated with religion, but it is also
possible to tithe in a non-religious context. This seems a
really important aspect of living abundantly – every time you
freely give money away, you are implying that you are confident
that more will come – this is a BIG positive affirmation with a
lot of power behind it. The traditional amount is 10% of your
income. I’ve recommended this to lots of people, and they’ve
told me that when they do this – magically – they seem to have
more. I started with 10% but now I’ve increased it, because
I’ve seen that the more I give away the more I get back, and
the happier and more abundantly I live.

4. Being grateful for what you already have – focusing on the
good that is already in your life. It’s easy to think about
what you don’t have, but spend some time each day thinking
about what you do have. Start each day by thinking of 5 things
that you are grateful for – and express this out loud.

5. Resentment, jealousy, envy and self-pity interfere with the
free-flow of abundance. If you are jealous or envious of
someone, it implies that what they have is not available for
you to have also. If you find it difficult to let go of these
feelings, Bach flower remedies may help. Try the emedy ‘willow’
to counteract resentment and self-pity, or try ‘holly’ for envy,
jealousy and greed.

6. Forgiving those that have wronged you is part of living
abundantly. Holding on to your anger, however justifiable it
may seem, keeps you stuck in the past, rather than going
forward into a better future. If it’s difficult to let go of
your negative feelings, try writing a letter expressing all
your anger, hurt or envy. Write until you can write no more,
and then burn it.

7. Being able to receive from other people. Being able to
receive is healthy, but many people find it difficult. You may
need to practice receiving. Think of the pleasure you get in
giving. By not receiving generously you are denying other
people the pleasure of giving.

8. Realise that in general ‘good luck’ plays a very small part
in people’s life. (If you put your faith in good luck, then you
have to accept the possibility of bad luck too.) People who put
their faith in ‘good luck’ often spend their lives waiting for
things to happen. People who don’t believe in luck go out and
make things happen.

9. Believing that there is enough money, food, love, etc. in
the world to meet everyone’s needs to live abundantly. I left
this one till the last, because it can be very hard to believe
when faced with war and starvation in the newspapers and on the
TV, but a lot of this anger and need is caused because people
who have do not believe they have enough, because they
substitute money and food for all the other abundance of life.
Do your bit to correct that imbalance and start living a life
that recognises there are inequalities and shortages, but
recognises that we can correct that so we all have what we
need.

QUOTABLE QUIPS

“To live a pure unselfish life, one must count nothing as one’s
own in the midst of abundance.” -Buddha

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by
what we give.”-Norman Mac Ewan

“Life is very short
And there’s no time for
fighting and fussing my friends.”-The Beatles

“Have as your goal to do your best and to make a difference.
We are in the world to make a difference,
and everything we do changes the world.
The greatest thing in the world is not so much where we are,
but in what direction we are moving.
Once the mind has been stretched by a new idea,
it will never again return to its original size.”-Oliver Wendell Holmes

“We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibers connect
us with our fellow-men; along those fibers, as sympathetic threads,
our actions run as causes, and they come back to us as effects.”
Herman Melville
