Losing weight is quite possibly the most difficult thing that people deal with. With the increasing ease of fast food and the enticement of junk food, it’s no wonder people are gaining weight and having trouble losing. If you are struggling to lose weight, I have good news for you. You can lose weight. It isn’t easy; it requires strength, will power and dedication. But there are some simple steps you can start taking today to help you lose weight. Here are your easy weight loss tips:
Tip #1: Drink at least 40 ounces of water every day. I know this sounds like a lot. It is! However, your body desperately needs every bit of this water—and more. By drinking 6-8 glasses of water (minimum) every day, you keep your body hydrated, which is important to weight loss. Not only that, but drinking water will actually help your body to flush out water weight.
Tip #2: Stop eating junk food. Do you eat lots of junk food—potato chips, candy, soda, etc.? If you would stop to take a count of the amount of calories and fat grams you are consuming by eating these things in just one day, you would probably be shocked. These are called “empty” calories because they fill you up, then leave you hungry and wanting more in under an hour. Stay away from junk food. In fact, purge your cabinets and hiding spots right now so you won’t be tempted.
Tip #3: Exercise at least 20 minutes per day. I know…the word “exercise” probably made your stomach lurch. But exercise can be—and should be—fun! The key is making it fun for you. Getting a little exercise each day is better than getting none at all. Call up a friend and enlist them as your exercise partner. Short, 20-minute walks every day will make you feel much better.
Tip #4: Eliminate all sugar from your diet. While this might sound similar to tip #2, it’s a totally different concept. Sugar makes you crave more sugar. When you eliminate junk food, that is a good, positive first step. However, you must eliminate all sugar in order to not continue craving junk food. The way to do this is to use a sugar substitute in your coffee or tea and reduce or eliminate carbohydrates in your diet. You will have withdrawals for a week or so, but by the second week you won’t even miss all that sugar.
Tip #5: Go easy on yourself. When you slip or mess up (and you probably will at some point), remember to go easy on yourself. Don’t beat yourself up for having that one doughnut or glass of regular soda. Instead, remind yourself of your success to date, then pick yourself up and start all over again.
