Self-Esteem

5 Ways to Improve Your Self-Esteem

Are you suffering from low self-esteem? Do you berate and belittle yourself or others frequently? Your self-esteem can be increased, but it will require hard work and dedication on your part. Here are five things you can start doing to improve your self-esteem:

1.  Think positively. A negative attitude is one sure sign of low self-esteem. When you feel rotten you tend to make everyone around you miserable, too. Start making a conscious effort to think and be more positive. It will feel weird at first, but keep trying and you’ll begin to feel a positive shift within yourself.

2. Be nice to others. As simple as this may sound, be nice to others. Nothing feels worse than putting someone down and seeing that exasperated look on their face. Say something nice. And if you can’t find something nice to say, then don’t say anything at all.

3.  Be nice to yourself. Again, this might sound crazy, but if you suffer from low self-esteem, you probably beat yourself up on a daily (if not minute-by-minute) basis. Stop doing that to yourself! Be as kind to yourself as you’d want someone else to be kind to you.

4.  Stop worrying about what others think of you. I know this one is huge, but you can do it. The problem with constantly worrying about what others think is that more often than not, they’re not even thinking about you! So stop stressing out over what someone else may be thinking or saying about you.

5.  Forget about being perfect. Be who you are, not who you think you should be. Perfectionism is highly overrated, and is a horrible task master. Nobody and nothing is perfect. Allow yourself to be just as you are.

Low self-esteem can absolutely be conquered and replaced with good, positive self-esteem. You have to make a choice to change it for yourself, though. Nobody else can do it for you.
