The Delaney Sisters
“Life is short, and it’s up to you to make it sweet.”-Sadie Delaney
“Don’t be afraid to fail. Even if you do, you’re bound to learn something along the way.”-Bessie Delaney
“When I was young nothing could hold me back. It took me a hundred years to figure out I can’t change the world. I can only change Bessie. And, honey, that ain’t easy, either.”-Bessie Delaney
These are some quotes from one of my favorite inspirational books. In Having Our Say, Bessie age 101 and Sadie, age 103 chronicle their lives of remarkable achievement. They recount the events of their lives with refresing candor and truth that is truly delightful.
Bessie and Sadie Delaney grew up in turn-of-the-century North Carolina with eight siblings. The sisters confronted the first days of Jim Crow and local segregation with courage, took part in the World War I era migration North and rose to professional prominence during the heyday of Harlem.
This is a book that I have read several times and each time I gain something new from it. Purchase your very own copy today! You will be glad you did. Thanks for reading!
